Girls Group at Happy Oak
We are excited to welcome families back to Girls Group, a supportive and engaging social group designed specifically for neurodivergent girls. Our goal is to create a safe, comfortable, and fun environment where girls can build friendships, strengthen their confidence, and develop important social-emotional skills.
Why Join?
Growing up as a neurodivergent girl can sometimes feel isolating. Girls Group provides a space where participants can connect with peers who share similar experiences, learn strategies for navigating social situations, and build lasting confidence in a supportive, understanding environment. Parents can feel confident knowing their child is practicing valuable life skills while having fun.
Through interactive activities such as art, yoga, music, dance, and group games, participants will explore meaningful topics while connecting with peers in an encouraging space. Each group is tailored to meet the unique needs and interests of its members.
Girls will have the opportunity to:
• Build friendships and make meaningful peer connections
• Develop confidence in expressing their thoughts, feelings, and experiences
• Practice self-advocacy and self-regulation strategies
• Strengthen perspective-taking and friendship maintenance skills
• Learn to acknowledge and respect others’ ideas, beliefs, and emotions
Prerequisites
To ensure the group runs smoothly and meets the needs of all participants, children should be able to:
• Follow multi-step instructions
• Have a communication system (e.g., verbal, AAC, sign language, or other)
• Participate in group activities without requiring 1:1 support
Please note: Children who display behaviours such as eloping, aggression, or self-injury will require a different support model. If your child would benefit from a 1:1 social skills program, please contact us directly at operations@happyoak.ca.
Structure
Each session begins with a welcoming activity and then transitions into games and projects designed to build social-emotional skills in a fun, accessible way. Activities and goals will be tailored to meet the specific needs of each group.
